New Aiming Technique Submitted by cubanbear
This is a technique that I discovered on my own through years of playing. I don't know if this has ever been documented before, but I would like to share it with you.
- Setup a medium cut shot into a corner pocket
- Spot the contact point on the object ball in order to pocket it
- Line up the que ball for a straight on shot on the object ball
- Locate the outside edge of the object ball and the inside edge of the cue ball
- Locate the exact center between the two edges
- Adjust your aim so that the exact center between the two edges is directly over the contact point of the object ball
- Take your shot
This is about the best that I can describe it without visual aid.

Re: New Aiming Technique ) by Anonymous on Tue, Apr 6, 2004 @ 11:49:48 CDT | It is in essence the "ghost ball" technique but with less visualization. Here's what I think he is trying to say. Let's say you had a cut shot into the right corner pocket. First you find the point of contact on the object ball. Then, after you make your initial aim on the shot, if you were to get down and level with the table, the picture you would see is a que ball with the object ball behind it and slightly to the right. Using the left edge of the cue ball as the left boundary and the right edge of the object ball as the right boundary, you then adjust your aim until the object ball contact point is directly between these two boundaries. In theory this technique would work. The problem is that most players don't shoot with their head on the table. If you're up where most people are then it makes it a bit more difficult to accomplish. I think the best approach to aiming is experience. That is, when you've made the shot 10,000 times you know exactly how to shoot it and you c

Re: New Aiming Technique ) by Anonymous on Thu, Feb 10, 2005 @ 20:27:49 CST | This is a very tricky explanation. basically, the author is telling you to picture a 2D field with an obect ball with a cut angle and a cueball. Imagine you're place the ball on the right-side along the long/side rail. Now take the left side of the object ball and draw a line to the right side of the cueball. Now... this is where the author loses everybody. I think the author wants you to picture a rectangle drawn between the object ball and the cueball with the center of the diagonal line inside the rectangle being the aiming point.
But, i think what the author doesn't get is that the aim still depends on the point of view. what exactly is the rectangle, and how do you visualize it if you have a very thin cut angle?
