Fine tune your english

Submitted by Harold Huggins (weird_harold)

After breaking an 8-ball rack, begin making the object balls with carom shots off the que ball. They can be made straight to the pocket or one or more rails. If the que ball is scratched just spot it back up and continue on. After a little practice you will know EXACTLY where your que ball is going to go. Your shapes, breakouts and number of scratches will all improve. A little strategic position play on the que ball setting up your next shot will also sharpen your mental game. Can be played against an opponent also. Enjoy!

Credits : This game has been around 25 + years and may be one of Minnesota Fats' practice drills.

We play a game like this for drill purposes. We call it "negative 9-ball". Here are the basics after doing a break like normal 9-ball.

On every shot, you have to stroke the lowest numbered ball on the table. Another way to put this is that the 1-ball becomes the cue ball. The actual white cue ball becomes your object ball. However, you have to pocket the lowest numbered ball.

The primary lesson you learn from this drill game is cue ball deflection. Since you have to pocket the ball you stroke, you might think this teaches you how to scratch. However, once you know how to scratch, you also know how to avoid a scratch.

The second thing you learn is strategy and how speed control and normal object ball deflection work. Because the cue ball is your object ball, it's going to go somewhere where you need to be able to hit it with the next lowest numbered ball.

Safeties also are reversed, meaning a good safety is when you hi
