Start with the diagram above. Place the object ball as shown in the diagram (the 1-ball) and the cue ball at position A. Using a follow stroke, follow the cue ball towards the corner pocket without the pocketing the cue ball in the pocket. In other words, follow the cue ball just short of a scratch. Continue doing this until you can consistently follow the cue ball without scratching where the cue ball starts at position A. As soon as you are comfortable following the cue ball from position A, continue to the next cue ball position - position B. Repeat the exercise - that is, follow the cue ball just short of pocketing it into the corner pocket.

Continue on to the next difficulty level by placing the cue ball at position C all the way to position F. This drill will teach you the 'feel' for the follow stroke and control the amount of follow you put on the cue ball regardless of distance between object ball and cue ball.
