The Monk Billiard Academy (www.monkbilliardacademy.net), founded in 1991 by Tim Miller, (The Monk) is dedicated to making you the best pool player you can become. Tim's unique philosophy on the inner game of pool has helped countless players realize the player within. During my thirty years of training I discovered that everything I did was an accident. I did not plan to do all of this. I was simply open to the experiences of my development and let things happen on their own. Years ago, a young man picked me up hitchhiking. I was on my way across Michigan in search of a job. Naturally I was down on my luck. Everything seemed so hopeless. I asked my friend how he got so successful and was able to own this expensive car. He answered that it was all an accident. He owns four nursery shops and never planned any of it. He simply asked God to help him and began his journey. To be honest, I was disappointed as I expected him to deliver me a step by step plan to work my way out of my deep dark valley. After he dropped me off, I had a distance to walk. During this walk I asked God to help me like He did that other guy. I forgot about the entire incident and went on my way. Then, life became a series of accidents. THE FIRST ACCIDENT I did not plan to spend three years in my basement. Allen Hopkins tells us it takes two millions shots before we can learn the secret techniques of a master. I delivered those two million shots and was able to reach the world class level of performance. During my exile in my basement I experienced the true meaning of the stroke and the subtle elements found within. These secrets are closely guarded by the pros. As a teacher and writer, I am inherently eager to share my experience with others. I spent this time by myself and it changed my life. THE SECOND ACCIDENT Later, after my basement experience I wrote a book. The book was more for my benefit than it was for the general public. I ran into a guy in the restaurant that seemed to take an interest in me. We talked and talked for hours over coffee. He told his wife about this unusual man he met. It turned out he was a publisher and wanted to help me offer my new book to the billiards market. Point the Way became the best selling book in pool. This book changed my life. THE THIRD ACCIDENT I met a girl who ended up travelling with me as I gave lessons around the New England area. After about a year, she decided she wanted training so she could show how this training system worked. She was very impressed with my material. It turned out she reached world class in less then a year and a half. We went through each stage of pocket billiards and during this training, we documented her development. As a result of this, I was able to write The Lesson which has become the standard of training in pocket billiards to this day. When I produced The Lesson training program it changed my life. THE FOURTH ACCIDENT I had Tom “Dr Cue” Rossman come to my house to teach me his world famous banking and kicking program so I could teach it to my students. I was the master of stroke dynamics and very good at teaching the stroke. In the world of banking and kicking my game was weak. “Dr Cue” was incredible. In fact, he was so good I asked him to teach while I produced the series. The Monk 202 was born that weekend and has been helping players for twelve years now. Tom had a big influence on me. Our friendship over the years has changed my life. THE FIFTH ACCIDENT I was working with a student in Aspen Colorado. Late one night I wandered down to the first floor from my fourth floor bed room. I could not sleep. We were on the side of a mountain and from this office in the basement, I could look see the valley far below. The moon was full and I could see the houses in the tiny village. There was something special about that night. I wrote The Four Points to Power program. I wrote a program that was designed to set a pool player free if they could absorb this unique information. That program is on www.themonkmastersuniversity.com The reason I called this Accident number five is because this program allowed me to really put my entire program together. It revealed the true meaning of The Monk 101. It is always fascinating to find out you did something profound long after you did it. The Monk 101 program changed my life. THE SIXTH ACCIDENT I got the chance to move to New Zealand. I met a girl and she invited me into her life. She lived in New Zealand and I ended up flying over there with the desire to live there for the rest of my life. During my two years in that country I was able to recover my health with a major operation and some great medical treatment. I was also able to write two more books, create eight dvd instructional material and create The Masters of Art in Pocket Billiard program. I was also able to recapture my game with one year of basement training in my own program. It is nice to play the game at the high level again and to enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing what you are doing. This two year experience totally changed my life. THE SEVENTH ACCIDENT Melvyn Tan flew over to New Zealand and worked on The Monk Masters University Web Site for three cold months. He stationed himself in my hall way and worked day and night on this remarkable site. MMU has over five thousand links. The Lesson is set up so you can click on each shot and watch how they are to be performed. He included sixty five classes so you can gain the knowledge that is so vital to your game. MMU is set up so you can get your Associates Degree and Your Bachelors Degree. My friendship with Mel Tan changed my life in a dramatic way. THE EIGHTH ACCIDENT I returned to the United States and established The Monk Master Teachers program. We had a grand opening of the San Diego Monk Billiard Academy. Check out the slide show. http://www.monkbilliardacademyandsupply.com/ I returned with three new students who wanted to go through the program. During my lecture on The Monk 101 program I realized that I have included every single aspect of this great game. All the exercises and shots apply to the Four Stages of Pool. All of the fine teachers in the Monk Masters Teachers program are changing the way we play this game. This program has changed my life in ways I could never have imagined. THE NINTH ACCIDENT I went to Raleigh Durham North Carolina to confer with a friend and as a result of that meeting we created a new game and knew league system. This game will help players learn the fine art of pocket billiards and bring back the fun times with team efforts. Each player gets to perform in the spot light and add points to his/her team. It is called The Ultimate Challenge Pool League. This game will bring the joy back into the game and has fulfilled a dream I have had for all of my pool career. It has changed my life. When I look back over my life I realize that all these accidents were not accidents at all. They were learning experiences that now enable me to have a great impact on this industry. Each of the events came from a destiny designed to bring me to you and fulfill my personal purpose in this game. Right from the beginning I desired to become a world class player so I could share the beauty of pool with my friends. Because of these shaping events I am now able to do this on a world wide scale. I have Monk Master Teacher’s in Canada, New Zealand, China, Singapore, Portugal, Germany and the United States. The Monk 101 is shared in seven different languages. If I pick you up hitchhiking I can honestly say it was all an accident. I did not plan it that way. I think when you offer your life to God it will always turn out better than you expected. For me, it has turned out fine. I know I am not finished. The Monk 101 will change the way you play this game and perhaps one day we will meet in the finals. If not, then take me with you in spirit for I know you will be cast in the winners circle when you master the Monk 101 program. I wish you all the best accidents this life can afford you. May all the rolls go your way.
