Billiard Table by JM Design Pool Tables( View reviewed item ) Spent the last two nights playing billiards at Mika888s place and thought to myself, "Since I've tried out his table already, why not make a review of the table?"
So here is my review of Mika888s table.
First impressions: The tables finish is an improvement over the previous incarnations. Mika888s earlier tables needed work on that area, and like any good manufacturer, he has seen fit to work on that and make it better.
The table I played on (which was Mikas practice table) was made of Tanguile Wood (a local hardwood, stained with a dark yellow stain ?), had adjustable legs, had leather pockets, K-66 Gum rubber cushions, and had Century cloth on it. I was told by Mika that the bed used was Marble, which had been buffed and wet sanded down again to make it really smooth.
How did it play? Surprisingly, really fast! Even more surprising given the fact that the cloth used was Century which is a thick cloth and not Nap free. The cushions were lively, and did take some getting used to. I think it took me 2 to 3 games to get used to the speed and the cushions. But, once I did, my game was ok.
Being his practice table, the pockets were small...as in really small! Smaller even than the pockets in Utopia. So small that you would not really be able to do cheat the pocket type of shots...meaning, most of your shots had to be spot on.
Of course, if you want other types of cushions (Superspeed, etc.) or cloth (Simonis, etc.), I'm sure that Mika888 can give you what you want. If you prefer other colors or stains, that is also possible. Autoball type tables, sure, he can do it also. Italian Slate, also possible, but expect to add quite a bit to the price.
There were really on two things that I picked on about Mikas table...one was the leather pockets. Mika used small nails or tacks to hold the leather pockets to the base of the bed. The tacks had a habit of coming out and becoming loose. I suggested using small screws (?) or maybe nails that had ridges so that they would not get loose.
The second thing I nitpicked on was that the Diamonds (or circles in this case) were not flush to the rail. Of course, this is also something that can be fixed.
I looked under the table and saw that it seemed to be pretty solid. The beams were nice and thick and looked stable.
Price? I suggest you get in touch with Mika888 and negotiate with him on that. :)
All in all, the table is pretty good. With further improvements and quality control, this would be a table that you would like to have in your home or pool house.
Oh, I beat Mika 5 - 3 in a game of 9 ball, race to 5 on my first night playing on his table. Dont know if Mika brought his A-game to the table though. lol
