ER240 Shaft

( View reviewed item )

The ER240 (Edwin Reyes 240 splice shaft) is the newest shaft that I have purchased. In fact, I just got my shaft from Edwin Reyes this afternoon, and spent the last 4 hours testing it and playing with it.

As most of you know, I have been bitten by the Cue bug and have a few cues in my collection. I have now started getting different kinds of shafts for my favorite cues and the ER240 shaft that I got from Edwin (aka Master, aka Bandido, aka ER) was fitted to my John Auerbach cue, which I also had ER refinish.

First impressions... well, the shaft takes some time to get used to. It is a very powerful shaft, and requires the user to play with a lot of finesse... and I mean, a lot! Sure, you can bang the CB around with the shaft (cue), but, that would surely mean that your CB will be running around the table and not stopping until it hits 6 or 8 rails. Ok...ok... maybe I'm exaggerating, but, the shaft really gives a powerful hit. You can produce quite a lot of spin with it.

Now, if you dont like stiff shafts, then, you will surely hate the ER240. It is the stiffest cue shaft that I have among the different types of shafts that I have right now. Well, maybe the graphite shaft is stiffer... but, graphite doesnt count.

But, for those who like stiff cue shafts, then, this shaft will be heaven for you.

The ER240, according to ER, actually has 240+ hard maple splices...and how these splices are glued together and made into a shaft is ER's trade secret, I guess. I understand how ER does it...but, I wont tell. It is quite beautiful to look at and looking at those paper thin splices put together into a shaft is amazing, to say the least.

Oh, it comes with an Ivory ferrule, ER's layered, leather tip, and the ringwork can be matched to your cue's ringwork.

For workmanship, I'd give it a 5 star rating. For playability, I'm pretty sure it's also a 5 star... it's just that my game isn't good enough to bring out the best in the shaft. I remember ER saying that Bustamante uses his ER240 shaft... if Bustamante is using it, then, it must be good. I'd give it a 5 star rating all the way...but, I'm reserving that for the perfect cue and shaft, which is a cue and shaft that will pocket all the balls that I am aiming at.

If you have any other questions about the shaft, send a private message (pm) to Bandido. I am sure he would be happy to answer your queries.
